Action Form 3.2 Has Landed - Easier, Faster, Smarter!

More than three years ago, we released Action Form 1.0 – a powerful DNN tool for creating forms easily and fast. The DNN landscape would never be the same. With Action Form leading the way, DNN forms took a turn for the positive by focusing more on performance and flexibility.

The success of this approach led the market to demand more versatile and extensive professional functions , and that’s gotten us to where we are today. I’ve been waiting a long time for today, and I know you have, too.

I bet you thought there wouldn’t be a release this week, since we were all shaking off the long weekend, huh? Not so! In case you haven’t spotted the news already, we’re pleased to announce that Action Form 3.2 is now officially released!

… And I may be biased, but I think it is AMAZING. So, first of all, we offer our heartfelt gratitude to our friends Richard, Kevin and Trent but also to other people on our forums for having given such an overwhelming response to our previous version. Action Form 3.2 couldn’t have happened without their insight and funding. Thanks guys, you rock!

What’s New?

There has been a lot of coverage leading-up to Action Form 3.2 shared on Twitter - so by now you probably have a pretty good idea of what's in the release. If I had to draw your attention to a few "important" highlights in the Action Form 3.2 release, I'd encourage you to focus on:

  • New data binding layer to dynamically control fields
  • Bind values, visibility and on change handler to fields
  • New expressions engine allows more complex, C# style, syntax in the Condition field for fields and actions
  • Option to link 2 dropdowns (actually any 2 multiple choice controls) together, so when one changes the options in the other change
  • Replaced the POST Data with new Server Request action that supports multiple HTTP methods and HTTP headers
  • Implemented Regex Parsing action - very useful for extracting data from a Server Request
  • Implemented actions to revoke roles
  • Implemented AES and RSA encrypt and decrypt actions. Key generators included for convenience
  • Added action to load a user into context
  • Added action to inject data into context
  • For inline form buttons, ability to align buttons (block, left, right, center) and apply an offset equal to label width

How to use Action Form 3.2?

As you’ll notice we have limited documentation on the new version of Action Form.  Why? We committed to releasing Action Form 3.2 this week and we wanted to keep that promise. That left us on a time crunch to create documentation, but rest assured we’re working on creating that around the clock.

And we hope to have much more live by the end of the week. So keep your eyes peeled! Additionally, if you’re looking for “specific” tutorials on how to use Action Form 3.2, just let us what you’d like to learn how to do here. And of course, if you have any questions, feel free to contact our support team by popping into our support  forums.

The Action Form Community is Embracing 3.2

The buzz about Action Form 3.2 is escalating and the community is excited! Check out some of the early reactions to this new version:

I just watched the release video and I see you can use complex javascript. This is looking fantastic!

This is exactly what I needed. You are the man! I can't say enough about the great support that I have received from you. Your product is so organized that I didn't want to use anything else and the quick support. Wow, I will spread the word!

The last version worked perfectly! By the way...We LOVE Action Form and we will tell anyone who will listen! That's pretty much all we using now for DNN forms.

Your form module is my favorite module to work with on our website. So fast and so easy! I wish all developers could create modules like this...

It’s time to see what the next 5 years of  DNN form builders is going to be about! It’s time for Action Form 3.2!

Ready for take-off?

I can’t wait for you to get started with Action Form 3.2. In fact, I’m shedding a tear over how happy I am about this. You’re gonna love it! With these updates and many others,  Action Form will give you more time back in your day. That means you can look forward to an extra cup of coffee…!

What's next?

So, we've built something awesome with your help guys... But we still have some cool features in mind:

  • Have Action Form automatically insert data into any given table without having to write an SQL Action with INSERT statements. More info here.
  • Action View module to build templates from Action Form (preorders). More info here.
  • Data Grid module to manage submitted data. More info here.
Well guys, this development is only possible with the assistance and funds from you, the members of our community. Without funds from supporters such as yourself, Action Form wouldn't be where it is now...

And it is our belief that Action Form can be taken to its next level with your help. So, lend your name to this development and join us in pledging funds to make this happened.

Make sure to vote and fund this features!
We're counting on your support, and will be happy to answer any questions you may have. Whew, we covered a lot of ground in this one!

Ok, you have tons of questions, I know it, so let us hear them in the comments!

As has become custom around here, we’ll announce the availability of our new releases  on Twitter before we send you an email. If you’re interested in being the first to get your hands on the new stuff, you should follow us on Twitter here.
